Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox each shooting separate “Mother’s Day” movies, one in Atlanta

“Friends” co-stars and friends IRL Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox both are filming “Mother’s Day” but not the same one.

Jen’s version is filming in Atlanta. Directed by the great Garry Marshall, its stars include Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis. The plot, per imdb: “Intersecting stories with different moms collide on Mother’s Day.”

Courteney’s version, with stars including Christina Ricci, Sharon Stone, Roselyn Sanchez and Susan Sarandon, actually is “Mothers Day,” no apostrophe. That one, per imdb: “Interwoven stories of what it is to be a mom seen through the lens of photographer Rigby Gray.”

Both films have spring 2016 due dates.

Happily, moviegoers likely will escape the confusion of two nearly identically titled films coming out about the same time. Movies frequently start out with one name and then end up being released as another.

The Billy Crystal-Bette Midler comedy “Parental Guidance” began life as “Call Me Artie” or “Us & Them” when it was filming in metro Atlanta in 2011.

The 2012 Ben Stiller-Jonah Hill-Vince Vaughn bro-com “The Watch” was “Neighborhood Watch” during filming here.

It looks like the “Mother’s Day” filming in Atlanta will have a new name by the time it hits the big screen.

“Ours likely won’t be called Mother’s Day but I don’t know what the title will end up being,” director Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter.

He mused that while directing a film in the late 1980s, then called “$3,000,” he generously got everyone working on the project a jacket with “$3,000” emblazoned on the back. By the time the movie came out it had a new name: “Pretty Woman.”

Needless to say, nobody’s getting a “Mother’s Day” jacket, Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m waiting for the final title!”
