Former football star Michael Strahan is leaving the daily talk show he co-hosts with Kelly Ripa to work full-time on “Good Morning America,” The Hollywood Reporter announced.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the incredible team at GMA. It is an exciting opportunity to be able to bring unique stories and voices to the audience,” said Strahan in a statement to THR. He leaves this summer and ABC will start a search to replace Strahan – who in 2012 was selected as heir to host Regis Philbin’s seat.
For Strahan, the move ends some cumbersome multitasking; juggling both gigs has meant he’s had to leave “GMA” early to make it to “Live.”
