Singer and actress Kelly Rowland has teamed up with Claritin on a tour of Boys & Girls Clubs locations in various cities, and made a homecoming stop at the Salvation Army Bellwood Boys and Girls Club on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Atlanta the other day.
“I’ve actually been involved with the Boys and Girls Club for two, almost three years now,” she said during an interview. “I just love what they’re doing with the communities. I love what they’re doing with the next generation of young people.”

Claritin, made by Bayer’s Consumer Health Division, is funding makeovers of outdoor spaces at three Boys & Girls Clubs locations and has partnered with Rowland, who deals with allergies like so many of us in Atlanta.
Rowland especially enjoys spending time with the young people she meets while visiting club locations.
“Hearing them talk about the Boys & Girls Club makes me love the Boys & Girls Club even more,” she said. “They overcome, they want to achieve and they want to be great. I really admire that.”
She and her husband Tim Witherspoon have a 17-month-old, Titan, and she’s inspired by the youths she’s gotten a chance to know on this promotional tour.
“These are our future leaders of tomorrow,” she said. “We have to sow greatness into them. We have to tell them how smart they are, how it is actually their responsibility to actually lead the next generation after them. When you hear these kids speak, they know that. I’m so impressed by that. It gives me chills. It’s exciting listening to them and watching them want to be great.”
A member of Destiny’s Child before launching her solo career, the Grammy-winning artist has a long list of acting credits, appearing in projects including the hit show “Empire,” the locally filmed “Being Mary Jane.”
While juggling the demands of a busy career and motherhood she didn’t hesitate when asked what she would do with a precious minute of downtime in her hometown.
“Eat!” she said with a smile. “Eating is fun in the South. Between pies and all the food being made with love, there’s nothing better than the South. I love it.”
And the Boys & Girls Clubs family loves her.
