Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” will film in Atlanta soon

The latest Marvel movie headed our way is “Avengers: Infinity War.” Actually, it’ll be two “Avengers” movies.

The project reunites many cast members who have been in Atlanta for previous films, including “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Robert Downey Jr.; “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana; Karen Gillan, who will appear in “Guardians” as well as the recently wrapped “Jumanji” remake; “Ant-Man’s” Paul Rudd; “Spider-Man: Homecoming” star Tom Holland, and Chris Hemsworth, who had a role in the “Vacation” remake.

Also included: the voice of the Atlanta Falcons’ “Rise Up” spots, Samuel L. Jackson, who also filmed “The Cell” and “Barely Lethal” in Atlanta in recent years. Chadwick Boseman, currently filming “Black Panther” at EUE/Screen Gems in Atlanta, and Peter Dinklage, who appeared with Melissa McCarthy in locally filmed “The Boss,” are listed as possibles at this point.

“Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers 4” (that’s a working title; Marvel probably will come up with a zippier one) will film concurrently at the Pinewood Studios facility in Fayette County. With a combined budget of $1 billion (with a B), it’s the biggest production to set up shop there.

Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy, a key Pinewood investor who’s been integral in ancillary projects such as the mixed-use Pinewood Forrest development and the Georgia Film Academy’s on-site learning soundstage, referenced the upcoming project without identifying it by name or giving away other details, but it wasn’t hard to nail things down, thanks to the the movie’s official imdb page.

“Infinity” is due out in 2018. We’ll do our best to keep you updated with star sightings and extras opportunities once things get cranking.
