“Girls Trip” looks poised to own the box office this weekend, if the enthusiastic reviews and eager social media posts it’s generated are any clue.
The comedy stars Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish as a quartet of inseparable college chums who bring the squad back together at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. Pro tip: you’re probably going to need to see this twice. The first time, we’re guessing you might miss a few lines from all the laughter, occasional hollering and sporadic applause drowning out bits of dialogue.
“Girls Trip” may make you cry with laughter, and it might also make you cry, period. As rollicking as it is for much of its two hours and change, its poignant moments are powerfully resonant.
