With the Atlanta Falcons ready to christen Mercedes-Benz Stadium, their new home, QB Matt Ryan and running back Devonta Freeman took a minute to reflect on the eye-popping new structure and on what greatness means.
“Greatness, to me, is being the best version of yourself every day,” Ryan says in a new video released by Mercedes-Benz USA and provided to the AJC.
“You’ve got to have that work ethic,” Freeman says.

The Falcons open the $1.5 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium tonight in an exhibition game against the Arizona Cardinals. The AJC will be on site covering every angle including, you know, who wins the actual game.
“The game isn’t the main attraction this time,” AJC sports writer Tim Tucker notes. “The stadium is.”
Both Ryan and Freeman discuss the community impact of the new stadium, a technological marvel brimming with unique restaurant and retail options, an impressive art collection, enough fiber optic capacity to allow every fan to tweet and Snap to their heart’s content and this positively ginormous “halo board” and complementing sound system that will ensure no one misses a moment of the action.
While the stadium is a wonder to behold, Freeman says his journey there relied on something simple: focus and a belief in hard work.
“To the kids that come from Atlanta and the kids that grew up in the projects, I would like to say look at me,” he says. “I’m just like you. I came from that area. The sky’s the limit.”
