Aretha Franklin’s Atlanta concert canceled for “unfortunate” reasons

Aretha Franklin won’t be taking the stage at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre as planned this month, but it’s not clear why.

A release cited only “unfortunate circumstances” but publicists didn’t have any other information. Franklin, 75, has encountered health issues for years and as a result has had to cancele or reschedule appearances, the AJC’s music critic, Melissa Ruggieri, wrote in August.

Franklin also announced that after a final few public shows, she would retire
