Longtime broadcaster Frank Ski and Dr. Patrice Basanta-Henry were married Friday night at The Estate in Buckhead.

Rev. Gerald Durleyofficiated. The ceremony included a moving family celebration, where the couple and Ski’s sons, Jarrett Rodriguez, Franklin Rodriguez, Blake Rodriguez and Harrison Rodriguez each poured a glass of sand in different colors into a box, creating a beautiful symbol of unity.

Following the reception hour complete with a fun photo booth, guests moved into the elegantly appointed ballroom to enjoy dinner and dancing. The dancing started almost immediately!

Basanta-Henry, who was featured on the cover of Georgia Trend’s 2017 “40 Under 40” issue, took an undergraduate degree from Howard University and a masters from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore before earning a medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine and then completing her residency and fellowship at Emory University.

In addition to her work providing medical services through the offices of Atlanta Maternal-Fetal Medicine, she serves as director of community projects for the Junior League of Atlanta and volunteers with Gigi’s Playhouse, an organization that serves children with Down syndrome and their families, and with Ski’s foundation, which provides educational opportunities for young people.

During the reception, Ski took a moment to pay an emotional tribute to his bride. His remarks were both funny and inspirational.

“Atlanta is the worst place to date in the world,” said Ski, who was divorced years ago. “If you’re single in Atlanta and you find somebody .. marry them! Atlanta is the worst!”

Ski and Basanta-Henry were introduced through friends. Their first date was a glass of wine at the Four Seasons. He was taken with her beauty, intelligence, love of travel and professional success.

“She was just so calm and collected, and it was just so pleasant,” he said. “Talking to my friends, I felt like a child because I was actually excited.”

He also shared some humorous anecdotes about how combining households (“Where’s my stuff gonna go?”) and shared touching memories from their courtship, such as his sons meeting Basanta-Henry and her family and loving them all immediately.

“This is how God works. I have learned that God is the No. 1 comedian in the world,” he said. “He puts you through stuff to show you.”
