Octavia Spencer at RHOA Kandi Burruss’ Atlanta restaurant

Octavia Spencer is in Atlanta once again, this time filming “Instant Family” with Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne and others.

Oscar-winning Octavia’s past work here includes “Hidden Figures,” which filmed in metro Atlanta and starred Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, Mahershala Ali and Kevin Costner; “Gifted,” with Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace, which filmed on the Georgia coast and the series “Red Band Society,” a teen medical drama that was filmed in Atlanta aired on Fox. So she knows her way around our town’s culinary delights.

“Atlanta can be the death of you because it has the best restaurants,” she told us during an interview last year.

Her favorite local haunts include The Optimist (“I think I ate there every other week,” she said) and she’s also a fan of recording artist and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member Kandi Burruss‘ Old Lady Gang. Of course a visit to the Southern food haven called for a photo by the iconic sign:

The restaurant, which Burruss owns with her husband Todd Tucker, pays homage to her mom, Joyce Jones, and aunts Bertha Jones and Nora Wilcox. The menu brims with down-home delicacies and recipes crafted with love and wit. You can start your meal with a cup of Mama Joyce’s House Punch ($11) or the Stubborn Atlanta Mule or Sneaky Georgia Peach (both $12).

Here is AJC dining critic Wyatt Williams’ review of the restaurant.

Looks like the OLG behind OLG is cooking up lots of fun:
