The hotly anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War” had a super heroic weekend at the box office with a $630 million global haul ($250 million domestic), according to data from Box Office Mojo. And it hasn’t even opened in China yet.
The film’s successor, also filmed here, is due out next year. The two projects combined to generate more than $182 million in local economic activity, the Georgia Department of Economic Development said. During their time filming here, several of the stars teamed up for a live reading of “Our Town” at the Fox Theatre, a benefit that raised $500,000 for the Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund at the Center for Popular Democracy.
“Avengers: Infinity War” is the second smash for Marvel in a matter of months. “Black Panther,” also filmed in Atlanta and released in February, has sailed past the $1 billion mark internationally ($688 million domestic).
